How do you know when to replace a tie rod?
If movement or looseness is felt between the tie rod ends and the
tie rod arms, remove and replace the tie rod ends. Check the seals
for rips at the time of lubrication. If removed, use a torque
wrench to measure the ball stud turning torque value. If it takes
less than 5 inch pounds of torque to rotate the stud, replace the
tie rod end.
